What this role actually is
This role takes a company that has bought AI tools and makes it get value from them. It spans choosing and deploying tools, building internal workflows and assistants, writing usage and data policy, training staff who are sceptical or afraid, and measuring adoption honestly.
It is the least technical and most consequential role on this list. Most enterprise AI spending currently produces nothing, because nobody holds this job.
The line in the sand
What it is NOT
Not IT procurement.
Buying licences is the easy part, and the part that fails. The role is adoption, not purchase.
Not an AI trainer or workshop facilitator.
Teaching is one component. Being accountable for whether usage actually changed is the job.
Not a consultant delivering a strategy deck.
The deliverable is people using something differently on a Tuesday, which no deck has ever produced by itself.
Output
What they actually ship
- Deployed internal tools and assistants that staff genuinely use
- Usage and data-handling policy specific enough to actually follow
- Training that changes behaviour, measured by adoption rather than attendance
- Honest adoption numbers, including where uptake failed
- A documented decision on what the company deliberately does not use AI for

Depth
The proof standard
Tier 1
Core
Ran an AI adoption programme inside an organisation with measured before-and-after usage. Can name what failed and what they changed. Has written policy that was actually enforced.
Tier 2
Working
Deployed AI tools and training inside a team or department with evidence of real usage. May lack formal measurement.
Tier 3
Light
Ran pilots, workshops or internal experiments. Adoption not yet measured.
Depth is what the builder claims. The badge is awarded separately, from the evidence — read the standard every badge is judged against.
Evidence
What a strong portfolio piece looks like
An anonymised adoption case study with real numbers — what was deployed, what share of staff still used it after ninety days, and what was abandoned. The abandoned item is the credibility signal; every honest programme has one.
Market
Market snapshot
The largest untitled role in the market. Companies hire for it under Chief of Staff, Head of Operations, Digital Transformation Lead and Product Ops — which means nobody can search for it, and the people doing it cannot describe what they do. Enterprise budget for this is substantial and growing faster than the supply of people who have actually done it.
